Think of the money that companies could save by better utilizing resources, if they knew, and could thus manage, the precise location of moveable assets in real-time…
Chicago, IL, January 5, 2007 Sky-Trax, Inc. is launching the Sky-Trax Indoor Position System™ (IPS), a patent pending technology and family of products that determine an object’s precise location, heading, and movement indoors. Sky-Trax IPS provides high accuracy for tracking objects, including lift trucks, other free roaming industrial vehicles, and moveable assets, anywhere inside buildings. IPS can be applied to diverse end-uses meeting a wide range of requirements, from managing fleets, to locating items, to guiding cranes or autonomous vehicles. To improve safety and efficiency, IPS applications protect pedestrians and log industrial vehicle fleet operations in warehouses and distribution centers.
Sky-Trax IPS uses Sky-I™ smart optical sensors, which are mounted on moveable objects or equipment and aimed at overhead position makers. Each Sky-I captures video images which it analyzes to determine position, heading, and velocity with inch-accuracy. Sky-Trax position markers utilize uniquely encoded visual data to identify locations. A wireless link transmits Sky-I data to the IPS Controller which collects location data from all Sky-I sensors. The controller stores data in an industry-standard database and makes it available in real-time for commercial or custom applications. The Sky-I optical sensor is not affected by environmental factors such as radio wave interference from building structures or contents, so the system functions accurately and reliably in virtually any facility – even those with harsh environments. The IPS scales economically without loss of accuracy from small to very large buildings.
Sky-Trax is introducing the new Sky-I 2000-RB and 2100-RB devices at ProMat 2007. The RB series provides small packaging and economical pricing. The 2000-RB provides a serial interface, and the 2100-RB offers either serial or Ethernet interface, and incorporates an illumination source internally. Several options for wireless communication are available.
Benefits and the cost savings potential for Sky-Trax IPS implementation covers a wide range of supply chain applications. Industrial vehicle fleet management, bulk storage inventory tracking, no-scan data collection, routing optimization, and vehicle guidance applications are aimed at significant efficiency and productivity improvements. Safety, security, and compliance applications bring rewards of fewer injuries, lower liability and insurance costs, and an improved work environment; all of which impact employee safety and operational economics.
